Over €10 million in EU funding for research infrastructure of the University of Maribor
SLOVENIA, September 23 - The two projects form part of the INNOVUM platform that contributes to the strategic development of the University of Maribor in the 2021-2030 period. The platform aims to support the development of modern research infrastructure and strengthen knowledge transfer to industry.
The INNOVUM project Purchase and renovation of the building of Faculty of Logistics and establishment of a logistics research centre
As part of the project, the University of Maribor will purchase and renovate the building housing the Faculty of Logistics. The new infrastructure will support the development of innovative solutions for sustainable logistics and more efficient supply chains which are essential to the economy and everyday life. It will also strengthen international collaboration with universities, research institutions and business, providing students and staff to gain international experience.
The INNOVUM project Extension of the Faculty of Logistics through the development of research infrastructure for the Institute of Energy Technology
As part of the project, the Faculty of Energy Technology of the University of Maribor will be expanded to accommodate modern research infrastructure for the Institute of Energy Technology. The new infrastructure will support innovation in energy efficiency, sustainable use of resources and advanced energy technologies, while enabling businesses to access state-of-the-art knowledge and research equipment. It will improve the conditions for education and research, strengthen collaboration with industry and contribute to training experts for responding to future energy challenges.
Minister for Local Self-Government, Cohesion and Regional Development Dr Monika Kirbiš Rojs said: “By investing in the education and research infrastructure of the University of Maribor, we help strengthen the development potential of eastern Slovenia, creating conditions for young talent, researchers and businesses to stay and develop their ideas here in Slovenia. Projects in the fields of energy and logistics will contribute to the development of new knowledge and innovation, while creating high-quality jobs and further strengthening the competitiveness of the regional economy.”
The projects will be implemented under Slovenia’s EU Cohesion Policy Programme 2021-2027. The €6,825,679.39 project Purchase and renovation of the building of Faculty of Logistics and establishment of a logistics research centre will receive €5,801,827.48 from the European Regional Development. The €5,388,282 project Extension of the Faculty of Energy Technology through the development of research infrastructure for the Institute of Energy Technology will receive €4,580,039.70 from the European Regional Development Fund. The beneficiary of the funding is the University of Maribor.
