SEATTLE, WA — September 2026 — Art of Arrival returns to Fairview Market Hall with a new site-specific installation by acclaimed Seattle artist Mary Iverson, unveiling Thursday, September 24 from 5–8 PM.

Produced by GCS Agency with Pembroke, the free event brings art, music, food, and community to South Lake Union.

For this commission, Iverson brings her distinctive visual language into 400 Fairview's architecture, juxtaposing natural landscapes with rigid perspective grids and shipping container forms.

Nature feels expansive and timeless, while human systems feel precise and relentless. Iverson allows the two to occupy the same space, creating work that prompts conversations around industry and environmental responsibility.

At 400 Fairview, that language moves into the built environment itself—creating an installation for a space where thousands of people work, eat, meet, and move through the city.

ABOUT MARY IVERSON
Mary Iverson is a Seattle painter, public artist, and educator whose work explores the balance between industry and environment.

Iverson's visual vocabulary grew from studying container terminals at the Port of Seattle. Those industrial forms evolved into monumental perspective grids and geometric interventions imposed upon detailed landscapes.

Her work features regional landmarks like Mount Rainier, Olympic National Park, and the Port of Seattle.

Iverson was the cover artist for Juxtapoz Magazine's 2015 environmental issue, and her work is represented in public and corporate collections across the region.

Her public practice includes a mural for the Seattle Sounders FC and Seattle Reign FC training facility and projects for the SODO Track mural corridor.
Iverson also serves as Art Department Chair at Skagit Valley College, teaching painting and leading community mural projects.

Art of Arrival is Fairview Market Hall's ongoing public art initiative at 400 Fairview in Seattle's South Lake Union neighborhood.

Since its launch in 2019, the program has commissioned 5 different site-specific installations that transform highly trafficked areas of the property into an evolving cultural destination. What began as an experiment in embedding original artwork into everyday architecture has developed into a sustained platform connecting artists with workers, nearby residents, visitors, collectors, and the broader Seattle creative community.

The installation continues Fairview Market Hall’s commitment to creating a Market Hall experience that extends beyond dining and retail. By introducing new artwork annually at its entrances, Art of Arrival gives tenants, neighbors and visitors another reason to discover—and return to—the Market Hall while providing a highly visible platform for local artists.
